What are the best things to do on a girls' holiday in Marrakesh?

The top girls' holiday activities in Marrakesh

I'm a massive fan of girls' holidays. Sure it's nice to go away with my other half, but every gal needs time with her besties. My close friends and I have been going on holiday together every year for six years now. I love choosing a new destination every year.

Our girls hols have evolved over time. We started off heading to Greece and beach holiday destinations for a week of sun, sand and sea. But as time went on, this suddenly wasn't enough anymore.

We've all grown up a bit and we haven't got the dedication to sit in the scorching hot sun and tan all week. Plus, no we're in our 30's it's most definitely time to start looking after our skin, and we're much more interested in seeing new places and indulging in a spot of culture.

Things to do on a girls holiday in Marrakesh.

Last year we went to Valencia, Spain, and it was a fantastic holiday. We combined a beach and city break, and stayed in Valencia's old town. This year our annual holiday got combined with one of the girl's weddings in Pollenca, Majorca. This wasn't enough for me, so I booked a last minute trip to Marrakech with my sister.

I don't know if you've noticed, but Marrakesh is growing in popularity as a ladies holiday destination. Two people I know have had hen dos there in the past six months alone. Plus, while we were out there we were surprised to see numerous groups of ladies on holiday in Marrakesh. Well, it turns out, it's a fab city for groups of women who are up for some culture, pampering and fun activities.

My top ten picks

  1. Hammam Spa

Things to do on a girls holiday in Marrakesh - Hammam spa.

Book yourselves a super relaxing hammam spa and experience a traditional local treatment. We had a hammam spa and it was oh so soothing and comforting. It helps you to wash away your stresses and leaves your skin feeling silky smooth. After all, you can't go on a girls' holiday and not get pampered.

  2. Belly dance lessons

Things to do on a girls holiday in Marrakesh - Belly dancing.

It's always fun to do group activities like dance classes when you're with your gals. Book a belly dancing class in Marrakesh and shimmy those hips to perfection. You won't stop giggling as you try and show off your best dance moves.

  3. Camel rides

Things to do on a girls holiday in Marrakesh - Camel rides.

Not the most glamorous thing to do with your girlfriends but definitely a fun activity that's a must in Morocco. Head out to the dessert and take in the scenery on the back of a camel. We went on a camel ride in Agadir and it was a brilliant experience.

  4. Atlas mountains trip

Things to do on a girls holiday in Marrakesh - Atlas Mountains trip.

Unfortunately we didn't have time to squeeze in a trip to the Atlas Mountains from Marrakesh. But a couple of my friends have been before and stayed overnight camping under the stars which sounds pretty epic. Why not book a camping trip the Atlas Mountains with your friends, especially if you're more of get stuck in, active, outdoorsy type group?

  5. Drinks at a rooftop bar

Things to do on a girls holiday in Marrakesh - Drings at a rooftop bar.

In the heat of the day there's nothing more refreshing than consuming an ice cold iced tea under the much needed shade of a rooftop bar. The main square in Marrakesh, Jemaa el Fna, has plenty of rooftop bars which offer a great place to go for a drink at night where you can overlook the main square and appreciate the city by night.

  6. Yoga

Things to do on a girls holiday in Marrakesh - Yoga.

You may be surprised to discover Marrakech is becoming a bit of a yoga mecca. Just recently, the The Es Saadi Marrakech Hotel joined forces with Le Tigre Yoga Club and now offers yoga classes and retreats. Plus, there are lots of places where you can show off your best downward dog or tree pose. So if you're less about getting drunk with the girls every day and more about health and fitness then a yoga class in a riad could be just the thing for you and your gals.

  7. Shopping in the souks

Things to do on a girls holiday in Marrakesh - Shopping in the souks.

You can hardly call it a girls' holiday without doing some sort of shopping. Plus, not trip to Marrakech would be complete without a visit to the world famous souks. Test out your haggling skills with your friends and peruse the endless selection of items including leather, jewellery, pottery, spices and clothing.

  8. Cocktails by the pool

Things to do on a girls holiday in Marrakesh - Cocktails by the pool.

I recommend spending the morning exploring the streets of Marrakesh and then heading back to the tranquility of your hotel for some drinks by the pool. It's the perfect reward after a hectic morning out and about in the city. We stayed in the Hotel Opera Plaza, which was a calm oasis on the outskirts of the city. It was so relaxing chilling out by the pool and swimming up to the pool bar to order cocktails.

  9. Jardin Majorelle

Things to do on a girls holiday in Marrakesh - Jardin Majorelle.

What's not to love about beautiful vibrant green gardens? If you and your ladies need a bit of a break from the hot city, escape to Jardin Majorelle where you will be greeted by palm trees and cactuses, brightly coloured buildings and pretty flowers. And it's definitely an insta-worthy place with plenty of photo ops.

  10. El Badi Palace

Things to do on a girls holiday in Marrakesh - El Badi Palace.

We adored El Badi Palace and the intricate tile designs and delicate patterns on the walls. The courtyard with the fountain is gorgeous and the Palace has a very interesting history. Book a tour round the palace with the girls and see what it's like to step inside a Moroccan Palace.

A pleasant surprise

Morocco offers a unique, vibrant, cultural and colourful holiday option

I hope some of these activities inspired you to book a trip to Morocco. It's a surprisingly well suited group holiday destination for ladies who want a touch more than lounging around by the beach. My sister and I had great fun on our trip and created memories that will stay in our minds for a long time. If you want to read more about what we did on our trip, click here.

We've not planned our holiday for next year, with babies on the horizon it could be postponed but I hope not, because I can't manage without my annual fix of female fun. Keep an eye out for my round up of the best places to go on a girls' holiday in 2018...
