Thailand Holidays

Overview

Thailand’s sugar-white sands, verdant landscapes, ancient temples, vibrant culinary scene, cultural sites and nightlife make it one of the most spectacular places to visit in the world. With beautiful islands and eclectic cities, Thailand holidays can be as varied as you wish – from paradise beaches to bustling street markets. Love beaches? The tropical sands of Maya Bay, Railay Beach and PhraNang Cave Beach are among the most beautiful in the country, caressed by clear seas and tropical forests. One of the best all inclusive resorts in Thailand, holidays to Phuket boast fantastic beaches and luxury hotels, plus its location makes a great base for island-hopping.

Thailand holidays serve up far more beyond the sand. Visit an elephant sanctuary, hike through lush forests, discover incredible scuba and snorkelling sites, tick off awe-inspiring temples and experience culinary delights on your holidays in Thailand. If you want a change of scenery, swap sand for cityscapes and explore the fast-paced capital of Bangkok.

The ‘Land Of Smiles’ is sure to satisfy time and time again no matter where or when you visit.

Getting Around

Travel facilities around Thailand are efficient and very inexpensive, especially the buses that operate around the resorts, towns and cities. In more rural areas and smaller towns, open-ended vans (songthaews) are popular, as are taxis, tuk-tuks and samlors. There is also an extensive train network if you’re travelling over larger distances, and ferries and longtail boats are a common sight on waterways. Most tourists stick to taxis as they are most convenient and inexpensive.

 Phuket

Phuket is Thailand’s largest island and attracts thousands of visitors every year.

Phuket has a tropical climate, which means it’s never really cold. The peak season is from November to February, when the weather is cool and dry, with temperatures hovering between a toasty 23°C and 30°C. After that, the mercury hits the mid-thirties and soars until May. While you can expect rain from June to October, it’s a great time to visit since you’ll encounter less tourist crowds.

Phuket beaches offer something for everyone. Party central Patong, popular for its noisy bars and restaurants, is also among the world’s top diving sites. Unwind at Bang Tao Beach, a long stretch of sand where you can lounge or go paragliding and waterskiing. Grab a beer at Karon, walk down to laid-back Kata or go for a swim on Surin Beach.

You’ll be met by an abundance of excellent Thai and International bites while you’re in Phuket. Feast your eyes (and bellies) on cuisines ranging from Italian and Middle Eastern to Indian and Japanese. If you're searching for street-food, you'll find it at Phuket Town Central Markets and the bustling Banzaan Night Market in Patong Beach, where stalls abound with exotic fruits.

Bangkok

Bangkok, the pulsating capital of Thailand, a city that perfectly blends tradition and modernity to offer an invigorating holiday experience.

Bangkok enjoys a tropical climate with three distinct seasons. Temperatures average at a lush 25°C in December and January in what is perceived as the ‘cool season’, making it ideal for a dose of winter sun. Thailand’s hot season occurs between March and June, followed by the rainy season until October – so plan ahead and book flights to Bangkok earlier in the year.

If you want to wine and dine, indulge in delicious food and cocktails in one of the city’s many rooftop bars and restaurants, such as Vanilla Sky, Sirocco & Sky Bar or The Speakeasy – with panoramic views to match. Alternatively, head to world-famous Khao San Road to party the night away in the reputed ‘back-packing centre of the world’.

Whether you’re enjoying a multiple-course dinner or grabbing a bite from a street-side food stall, be sure to sample exquisite renditions of Thailand’s fragrant curries, feast on sweet and spicy papaya salads and savour sticky rice with coconut for a traditional dessert. Head to Yaowarat (Chinatown) for a mixture of Asian cuisines, visit Lookshin Tongchai in Soi Rambuttri for handmade grilled meatballs or pick up Pad Thai from Pad Thai Thip Samai in Phra khanong for just £1!
