Fantastic Holiday in Panama
I was in the process of actually phoning you to tell you that we had a marvellous time in the Panama. What a wonderful package tour it was. We will be asking if you have any more deals like this one in the new year!!
Thank you so much for your help organising the trip but also a huge thank you for your help with our flight delay. United moved us to a flight to Houston (rather than Newark) which required a pick up in Panama at an alternative time the following day, and you phoned the agent for us, well that all went smoothly and we only missed the first night and a half day of holiday time.
I have to say here that United Airlines are awful, not your fault but generally pretty dire and we would not choose to fly with them again. Old planes, very little help with flight changes, sloppy staff, no food unless you paid between Houston/Newark and Panama. Poor service on the flight, one stewardess was actually chewing gum!! Finally to top everything, the plastic inner window of the plane fell off when my husband tried to close the blind on take off from Newark and when we rang for help the steward said he would give us some tape to tape it back up!! Our thoughts were that if general maintenance was that bad, how did they deal with engine problems - another length of tape perhaps!!! This was not conducive to a relaxed flight as you can no doubt understand.
However, the actual holiday was marvellous. The hotels were excellent, the Wyndham Garden was a typical small city hotel with mostly Panamanian guests, but with spacious rooms and a large American style bathroom. The restaurant here was quite small and filled each morning with local guests sitting in front of huge plates from the buffet. We ate out at local restaurants nearby in the evening. The Gamboa Rainforest Resort was lovely, set overlooking the river with huge gardens with mostly American group tours but also some locals. Food consisted of huge American style buffets but you could have a la carte if you wished. Breakfasts were to die for. The Playa Bonita was just as good, we were there at the weekend when they allow local people in to use the facilities. In fact as there are at least five pools this was absolutely fine, it was quite fun to watch all the activities and frivolity going on around us. This hotel is set right on a pleasant beach and all rooms (over 600) were totally full while we were there, mostly all locals, just a smattering of Americans but not tour groups and two British couples - who had also bought your tour.
The Gamboa Tour people were very helpful, friendly and efficient with all pick ups and drop offs, in fact in most cases we had a smart limousine to ourselves. We took three of the four 'free' tours, the two trips to the Panama Canal and the tour around the old city, all were excellent. The other tour we gave a miss because we hired a private wildlife guide instead to help us with identification of wildlife and birds in the Soberania National Park at the Gamboa Hotel.
If we were to go again, I think we personally were happy with only two days in the city, we would prefer five days in the Gamboa Rainforest hotel and two days at the beach, but that's just our preference.
Anyway, we hope this information helps you. Overall a fantastic holiday and EXCELLENT value.
Many thanks once again and we will be in touch in the New Year.
